"Fairy garden” („Tündérkert”) with native fruit trees in the vine hill of Oszkó
The history of our „fairy garden” started in 2010 when we bought 100 pieces native fruit trees from Gyula Kovács and they were planted in Oszkó by the children and their families who live or used to live in the village.
The forester from Zala county collected and bred many native species of fruit trees. Between the purchased trees we can find apple, pear, sour cherry, medlar, rowan, quince and blackberry too. Following years the number of the planted trees were increasing and they started to bear fruit. We have already 150 trees in the vine hill signed with small tables which show the name and the year of the birth of the children and contain also the type of the tree.
We organize every spring a „Tree tender day” when the families meet each other and this day gives a good opportunity to do the annual maintenance work regarding the trees.
More and more settlements and communities join to the „Fairy garden movement’ in Hungary. We think that it is very important to sustain the traditional knowledge and experiences of the inoculation of trees, which are preserved by the older generation.
